As part of my new series to highlight what an amazing group of people we have in Umina, here’s this week’s featured Human of Umina – Liesel Els.

  • Umina resident since: 2016
  • Occupation: Office slave
  • Favourite reads:
    • Classics – Unbearable Lightness of Being (Milan Kundera)
    • 1Q84 (Haruki Murakami)
    • Anything by Capote, Levin, Palahniuk, and Gaiman.

Tell us a little about what you did before moving to Umina?

Immigrated to Australia in 2006, lived in the Eastern Suburbs before trekking to Coast. Spent some obligatory time in the UK before deciding the weather and people were too miserable.

Why do you love living in Umina?

The community and the beauty of our surroundings. It’s wonderful to go shopping, for a walk, a coffee and inevitably bump into someone I know.

What do you think would improve Umina?

Oh please fix the roads! I’d love to have more places to go dine instead of take-away joints.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I’m a bit creative and like to keep my hands busy making something or other. Find my gorgeous suncatchers at the Book Nook. I’m passionate about everything eco-friendly and have a side hustle Bee’s Knees Eco Store.
