Meet Kate
Kate is an award-winning writer, business coach, speaker, podcaster and hula hooper. She’s previously written a book of poetry, a popular kids book and three business books (her latest Six Figures While you Sleep published by Major Street Publishing). Her love of literature started at school, and continued through to her English Literature degree (there isn’t a classic she hasn’t read).
After working in advertising as a copywriter for many years (both big agencies and a freelancer) she now teaches others her skills via online courses and memberships.
Kate has loved the bookshop in Umina since she moved here many moons ago, and hopes her creative flair, love of community and marketing skills can help continue the lovely atmosphere of the store.
She’s an avid crime reader, a poetry glutton, loves a bit of modern fiction and of course the old classics and a bit of Tolkien Fantasy. A big kid at heart, you might also find her in the kid’s section, lapping up toddler books and teen fiction.
Meet Grace
Grace has always loved to read. As a child, she loved to venture into fantasy worlds like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, as well as graphic novels and comedy. Spending many years working in education, Grace keeps up with what books kids are loving and loves to share her love of reading with little ones.
Grace reads anything and everything, but her go-to genre is science fiction. She also particularly enjoys fantasy and horror. She absolutely loves talking books and is always happy to recommend her favourites.
Grace is soon beginning her study of creative writing and dreams of one day writing a novel and owning a second hand bookshop of her own.
Meet Olivia
My name’s Olivia, I’ve always been an avid reader and don’t discriminate on genres!! I like a little bit of it all.
When I’m not in the Nook you’ll most likely find me in my house, still not having gotten ready for the day, crafting something and bothering 1 of my 4 black cats with my love! I also can be very creative and crafty so when I’m not bothering my cats with love and obsession, I’m likely procrastinating something by sewing, knitting, painting, building, or just generally being crafty hehe.
Meet Orion
Orion was born and raised in the Peninsula, into a British family of avid book lovers.
At a young age, his mother introduced him to novels, such as ‘The Lord of The Rings’, ‘The Hobbit’ and more juvenile books by the authors Anh Do and David Pickley.
Soon Orion became disillusioned with reading at the age of 10, and for quite a while he read no books. Recently Orion has sprung back, now with an obsession with nonfiction texts and essays, from the likes of Schopenhauer, Plato and Marx.
Meet Cara
Hi, I’m Cara! I’m a single mum to two amazing boys, an avid reader, and the founder of Smutty Book Club.
While I love a great spicy romance, I’m a mixed-genre reader at heart and enjoy everything from thrillers and fantasy to contemporary fiction and romance.
When I’m not reading, you’ll usually find me hanging out with my husky and two cats, chatting with fellow book lovers, or browsing the shelves at Umina Beach Book Nook—my happy place and where I’m always on the hunt for my next favourite read.
For me, reading is about more than just the story—it’s about the friendships, laughter, debates, and community that books create. Whether you’re here for spice, suspense, fantasy, or something completely different, I hope you’ll find your next favourite book here!
